Nintendo Wii has the lead over the PS3 by five consoles to one in Japan, up from four to one in April, according to respected Tokyo research firm Enterbrain, Inc. ![]() Nintendo's Wii sales were 251,794 in May, putting in the PS3's sales at around 50,358. The Xbox 360's trailing the pack at a meagre 11,082 sales. And it's not only the Wii that's dealing out serious pain to Sony's products, either - the DS has the PSP firmly pinned to the canvas with 620,670 DS's to 123,673 PSPs, again a five-to-one ratio. Despite the PS3's superior graphical ability, it seems as though it can't stand up to the wider appeal of the Wii right now. Even so, Sony are sticking to their forecast of 11 million PS3s shipped by March 2008 - perhaps an unlikely target. Nintendo forecasts that sales of the Wii will triple this fiscal year. While Japan has a traditionally different market to Europe, the USA and the rest of the world, it remains to be seen whether Sony can overtake Nintendo in the race for domination, or if Nintendo will keep its considerable advantage through 2008 and onwards.
