Mario Kart Wii Character Review - Wario

Decked out in purple and yellow, this wiry-moustached nemesis of Mario will stop at nothing to win! Let's hear it for Wario in FullHealth's second Character Review!

What's he like?
When he's not stuffing down garlic, looting ancient pyramids or running a questionable video gaming business, Wario likes to tear through the karting competition with brute force, hurling cries of "Take that, loser!" and "Wario's great!" along the way. His Mini-Turbos take a slight boost, and his weight and off-road abilities are slightly higher than normal, but being a heavy-class character his acceleration tends to suffer.

But what's that when you can brush aside lighter characters like rotten garlic in a sandstorm? Factor in his boosted top speed and you'll quickly find Wario is not to be messed with once he starts rolling. Get in his way and you might find out just how much he means his memorable catchphrase from Mario Kart 64: "I'm-a Wario, I'm-a gonna win!"

What other course would you expect from such a money-minded man like Wario than his own private gold mine? It's a pretty notorious ride, too, with plenty of chances to go plummeting to your doom off of the rickety minecart rails. There's a shortcut to be had near the end of the caves - but keep an eye out for those carts of gold or you'll find yourself broke!

Wario's Gold Mine

When to use him?
Rather than someone to choose for individual occasions, for many veteran karters Wario's not just a character - he's a way of life, a personality that defines one's very karting style. But for the rest of us, it's time to bring out the big guns when you're pretty confident of a win over your inferior competition and need just that little extra to make your comfortable victory known. Any race with Wario will go best if you take advantage of his heavyweight class, so don't hesitate to smash into your unsuspecting opposition at the most inconvenient of times. (For them, that is! We doubt Wario would have it any other way.)

Wario may not have the respect of some of the more able racers, but in the hands of a master he can be a powerhouse in disguise.

Next up...
A real newcomer to the field - but not who you might be expecting. OK, we'll drop you a clue - she makes her debut on Nintendo Wheeeee!
