Mario Kart Wii Character Review - Yoshi

The dinosaur, the legend - he's been Karting since 1992 and has never missed an instalment since. But does he remain true to his form in Mario Kart Wii? Find out in this final Mario Kart Wii Character Review!

What's he like?
Yoshi's a true veteran of the series, traceable back to the original Super Mario Bros. He's traditionally been a wise choice for seasoned veterans in previous Mario Kart editions, but has received a huge popularity boost lately with the advent of such as Mario Party, Tennis, Golf and other spin-offs.
On the track he's as vocal as ever, squealing, mumbling and humming his way to victory, and his weight class retains Double Dash!!'s change to medium (up from lightweight in Mario Kart 64).

Favouritism aside, though, Yoshi's actually taken something of a performance hit in Mario Kart Wii, only having slight boosts to his weight and drift capabilities with a good boost to his off-road stat. Compare this to Daisy's boosted speed, handling and mini-turbos and you can see that he might just have lost the crown of racing perfection he once held in Mario Kart 64.

It seems Nintendo has something of a grudge against the poor guy, too - opting to paste his name against a (cough) "retro" track instead of a full-blown brand new track. So, instead of an all-new Yoshi's Island course, we're faced with... good ol' Yoshi Valley? Nope, you guessed it - DS Yoshi Falls. Yawn...

DS Yoshi Falls - but where's Yoshi's new course?

When to use him?
Really, this question shouldn't be applied to the green dinosaur - despite the battering he's taken in this latest issue, he remains this author's firm favourite character. Despite his mediocre abilities, as a medium weight he's perfectly capable of clinching a win in the hands of an expert, and he's not afraid to tell you about it afterwards (or during the race, or at all for that matter!)

He's not the most elite racer - but he's still the best. Go Yoshi!

Hmm, I have to say Koopa's still my favourite. He's a cute lightweight, with an awesome Nanobike... I look forward to his review.
